Intransitive verb


Intransitive verbs are those that are not followed by an object or a complement.

Let's see some examples below:

Rain: The sky is cloudy, and it looks like it might rain soon.
Sneeze: I always sneeze when I’m around cats.
Laugh: The comedian’s jokes were so funny that the audience couldn’t stop laughing.
Sleep: I usually sleep for eight hours every night.
Run: I like to run in the park in the morning.
Walk: I walked to the store to buy some groceries.
Cry: She cried when she heard the news.
Swim: We went to the beach and swam in the ocean.
Sing: He loves to sing in the shower.
Dance: She danced all night at the party.
Fly: The bird flew away when it saw me.
Jump: The cat jumped onto the table.
Hike: We hiked up the mountain to see the view.
Breathe: It’s important to breathe deeply when you’re feeling stressed.
Grow: The flowers in my garden are growing quickly.

Some verbs are both intransitive and transitive. They can be used with or without an object.
Example:
My father was reading. (intransitive)
My father was reading a Physics book. (transitive)

Intransitvie verbs include "verbs of position" such as sit, stand, lie etc., and "verbs of motion" such as come, go, fall ... . However, these verbs are often followed by phrases of place or motion. Let's see examples below:
They are sitting by the sea.
He went to England.
