Along

Along is a preposition of motion (or movement) or place meaning "from one end towards the other end". For example:
1. Sam often walks along this street.
2. My friends love to see trees along the river.

Along as prepositional adverb has a meaning similar to the meaning above, but the noun phrase after it is omitted. For example:
The students marched along, singing noisily.

Along is also used in the idiom along with (meaning "in company with"). For example:
They're going for a walk. Why don't you come along with them?

We often omit the with + noun phrase. For example:
Why don't you come along?
