Comment clause

 What is "comment clause"?

A comment clause is a small clause which adds a comment to what is said in the main clause or in the rest of the sentence. For example:

  • Sam's wife is a teacher, I think.
  • As you know, I've always wanted to visit France.
  • As I've said before, you have to take a break from work.
  • According to this map, you see, we can find the correct locatoin.

The comment clause can occur in front, middle, and end positions in the main clause. The typical structure of comment clauses is subject + verb.
