What is "actually"?
Actually word class is an adverb.
Actually means "in fact" or "in reality". It's used in two ways: (1) for emphasis, and (2) to disagree with something.
1. Emphasis
It's used for emphasis when we have something really surprising to say. Let's see examples:
- He drove a nice car with a beautiful girl. I actually saw him at the park.
- W3School.com is a great website to learn coding. You can actually learn any coding languages with it.
Note: Actually occurs in middle position for emphasis.
2. Disagreeing
If we think what someone has said or done is incorrect, we can correct them by using actually in front or end position. Let's see examples below:
A. You don't need to know HTMS and CSS in order to run your own digital business.
B. If you're planning to run your business with a website, it matters a great deal, actually.
