What is apposition?
Apposition is a relation between two noun phrases which describe the same thing, person, etc. One of the phrases is a modifier of the other.
Examples:
- Donald John Trump, the 45th President of the United States from 2017 to 2021, often made headlines with his unconventional approach to politics and communication.
- My friend lives in Texas, a state in the United States of America.
- The next train, the 9:45 to Seoul, leaves from Platform 4.
Note: Often the phrases in apposition are separated by a comma (,).
