Object Complement

An object complement is a "complement after the object" of a clause. It contrasts with a subject complement, which is a "complement after the subject".

Here are some examples of sentences with an object complement following the object (the object is marked like this: object).
Ex:
(1) The minister considers himselft a supporter of free speech.
(2) I have often wished myself a millionaire.
(3) The long walk made us all hungry.
(4) They keep the streets nice and clean.

In (1) and (2) the object complement is a noun phrase. In (3) and (4) the object complement is an adjective phrase.

The relation between the object and object complement can be represented by the verb BE. (1) and (2) above mean the same as:
(1) The minister considers that he is a supporter of free speech.
(2) I have often wished I was a millionaire.
