Recently means "not long ago". It's used with a past tense or with a perfect form. It can go in front, middle, or end position. Let's see examples in the tables below.

Front Position
Past Simple Recently, five prisoners escaped.
Past Perfect Recently, five prisoners had escaped.
Present Perfect Recently, five prisoners have escaped.

Middle Position
Past Simple Five prisoners recently escaped.
Past Perfect Five prisoners had recently escaped.
Present Perfect Five prisoners have recently escaped.

End Position
Past Simple Five prisoners escaped recently.
Past Perfect Five prisoners had escaped recently.
Present Perfect Five prisoners have escaped recently.
